My New Friend

Not a gift this time, I got it for myself.

:) Isn’t it so beautiful??

My old iPod mini actually still works just fine, but I was basically just getting tired of how heavy it is (comparatively.) I’d stopped taking it along on walks and stuff because the weight of it would always yank the earphones out of it, or else pull the whole iPod out of my pocket!

Anyway, it was time for a change.

This one has a bright color monitor, that displays all my album covers!

And you can store and display photos on it, though there isn’t a ‘wallpaper’ feature.

It also plays videos! Right now mine has a Gregory Peck/Hitchock movie on it! I shoulda taken a pic of that. Oh well. The important thing is, I can watch Peck on the bus!! I imagine this could do a lot for my mental health: Depressed at the Pittsburgh squalor out the bus window? Peck! Bored on a long car trip? Brokeback Mountain! Frightened at the airport? Peck! Stuck at an interminable library conference? Sean Bean! I see great potential.

I love my new lil’ bitty! I paid the extra $50 for the (Product)RED version, which meant I had to buy it directly from Apple. Since I was doing that, I decided I may as well opt for the free engraving.

I agonized over what to engrave. I wanted something enduring, not just a passing fancy. It settled on

It’s Old English…the opening word of Beowulf. Loosely translated it means, “Listen!” or “Listen up!” Seemed apt, and it will never go out of style.

Nice! I didn’t really appreciate the form factor of the fatty Nano when it came out. It’s one of those things that you just have to hold to appreciate.

Hm…and I’d appreciate being able to edit out repetitiveness. Oy.
