On My Street

Today I wanted to give you a little sense of my neighborhood geography.

You may have noticed, my new neighborhood has a large Russian population. I think that’s pretty cool. We have two Russian/Eastern European groceries within a 5-minute walk from my house, and one Russian restaurant that I haven’t tried yet. The groceries sell some awesome stuff, though.

Also within a 5-minute walk from my house are:  a Local Grocery Monolopoly store, two banks, a tanning salon, a Chinese restaurant, a bar, and two diners.  I’ve only tried one of them, but it was pretty good.  I had an awesome turkey Reuben, and you can get a gyro breakfast sandwich! It’s also like the old guy hang out, where old guys sit and complain about health care costs and eat lunch.

Within a 10-15 minute walk from my door is Squirrel Hill, home of some great ethnic eating, two movie theaters, a Barnes & Noble, used record shop, Ben & Jerry’s, SREES, Coldstone, great bagel places, coffee shops, newly remodeled public library, younameit.  The closest Starbucks is about 12 minutes walk from me! :)   And it’s right near a movie theater.  W00t.  The only bad things about SH are the droves of annoying old people who live there.  And college students.  But hey, I dont’ have to live there, just visit it for food.  If I wanted to take the bus there, it’s 5 minutes or less.

I’m also very close to Schenley Park.  We rode there on BW’s motorcycle Saturday, and it took…maybe three minutes?   Our new walking spot is Calvary Cemetary, just a few blocks from home, btu it is so cool I want to save a whole seperate post or two for it, once I get some pics.

Sounds like you have a great new neighborhood, but I feel your pain about the “droves of annoying people.” I’ll bet they could be interchangable with my droves.
