Daydreaming on the Casting Couch

If you’ve spent more than 10 seconds browsing this blog, you know that movies are my life. As such, one of my favorite things to do to keep my mind occupied during long bus trips, waits in the dentist’s office, etc. is Imaginary Movie Casting. I also sometimes do it instead of counting sheep at night. I try to come up with the perfect dream cast, both for movies that are really in production, or even just movies I wish would be in production. It can be fanciful or serious, depending on my mood.

Anyway, you may have heard that somebody is planning a Dukes of Hazzard movie, starring the likes of Jessica *gag* Simpson. Dukes is one of my all-time fave shows, and it deserves better! It deserves to be treated with respect, dang it!

So over the weekend, my friends and I were thinking: what if they made a Dukes movie, and instead cast it full of Award-winning (or nominated) actors? Think of it! It would be like the X-Men flix….a potentially B-movie made great by an Oscar-caliber cast! To wit, here is my All-Star All-Award-Worthy Dream Cast of The Dukes of Hazzard: The Motion Picture

Boss Hogg —- Marlon Brando (R.I.P. 2 Oscar Wins, 6 nominations)
Lulu Hogg —- Kathy Bates (1 Oscar Win, 2 nominations)

Uncle Jesse —- Anthony Hopkins (1 Oscar, 3 nominations)
Daisy Duke —- Angelina Jolie (1 Oscar)
Luke Duke — Hugh Jackman (1 Tony Award)
Bo Duke —– ??????

Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane —- Geoffrey Rush (1 Oscar win, 2 noms)
Deputy Cletus —– Tom Hanks (2 Oscar wins, 3 noms)
Deputy Enos —— Willem Dafoe (2 Oscar noms)

‘Crazy’ Cooter Davenport —– Donal Logue (Best Actor, Sundance Fest. 2000)

The Villain ——- Al Pacino (1 Oscar win, 7! noms)

What do you think, sirs? As you can see, I’m having trouble with Bo. Can’t think of any 30-something award-winning, good-looking blondish men. I’m open to suggestion. Send me your candidates, and make sure to tell me what awards they’ve been up for.
