The Vibe Patrol

Good vibes going out to my hero Derrick Martin of Cochran, GA who after a long and valiantly-fought struggle will be escorting his BF Richard to their prom this weekend.  I have been following this story for a long time, and now that the prom is actually here, I am nervous as hell that some evil fuckery will happen.

So please join me in crossing all of your extremities and vibing away for Derrick & Richard.

If you haven’t been following the story, you can read all about it here, for starters. Essentially he got his way with the prom decision, but then his parents kicked him out of the house and his town held an anti-Derrick rally, among other things.  Naturally, some of the “Christian” parents of town have organized their own segregated prom for their precious holy children who don’t want to mingle with Derrick.  Oops, dripped some venom on my keyboard, hold on a sec…

But he’s weathered it all with amazing composure.  This kid is awesome, and well-spoken, and humble and intelligent and darn adorable.  Vehemently childfree as I am, I would be proud as hell if he was my son.

Here’s some video.  Skip to the 1:20 mark for Derrick.

And of course, Let’s Go Pens!

I’m sending many good vibes and positive thoughts to Derrick and Richard. Sad, but not surprised, to see the “Christian” faction organizing an event that is not all-inclusive. I sincerely hope Derrick and Richard have a wonderful time at the prom.

*crosses fingers, arms, toes, and legs* Good for him for sticking to it and not backing down. I hope they don’t pull any last minute stunts and screw this nice kid out of his prom that he deserves just like anyone else. Go Derrick!

He and Constance McMillen are AMAZING in the mature way they’ve dealt with some incredible adversity. At 16, I was devastated when my shoes didn’t get dyed correctly for the prom. I can’t imagine not being able to go with my BF/GF or having some a$$holes hold a SECRET prom.
By the way, the Memphis Gay & Lesbian Center is holding a “come all” prom for Constance and anyone else. This might actually get the hubby to put on a suit for the first time since our wedding! Now what am I going to wear?
